That moment is the heart of Singularity Books. It’s the terrifying, liberating space that opens up when the ground beneath your feet gives way. It’s the stunned silence after you whisper, “I just don’t believe that stuff anymore.”

Singularity Books was founded by Steven Gambrel out of his own five-year “dark night of the soul” that led to rebuilding an honest faith. Our purpose is to publish books that serve as companions for that journey. We believe in the power of story to explore the painful, necessary work of deconstructing and reconstructing belief. We create space for the hairy-eyed heretics, the doubters, and the seekers—those who suspect that Jesus and Christianity might be incompatible and are looking for a more authentic way forward.

Our first publication, The Beach, is the story that started it all. It’s a novel born from lived experience, offering hope and healing to those who have been traumatized by toxic faith and guidance for anyone navigating their own spiritual wilderness.
